LIFE WRAPPED

Speculative design to visualize a foreboding future of personal data transparency through a hypothetical data visualization report of recorded social behavior.

Jump to results

Inspired by Spotify, last.fm, and their methods of displaying people's music listening habits, Life Wrapped imagines a world where our daily actions are not only tracked and but displayed to us in *cute* reports. This report visualizes a possible future where the personal data our devices collect is shared with us in effort to persuade us into further product consumption. The project serves as a commentary on how willing we are to surrender our privacy to large tech conglomerates.

VISUALIZING A REALITY Where your
behavior is commodiFIED

Since I began streaming music, I have always been interested in viewing the statistics behind my listening. Over time I became curious about what my true report might look like if it was capable of presenting our full listening habits across different platforms, concerts, elevators, friends, etc. This restriction led me to imagine a hypothetical device that was able to record our musical data in all environments. This vision snowballed into Life Wrapped the report on all of life’s data.

Design fiction is an imaginative and speculative approach to design that uses storytelling and visualizations to explore realistic potential futures. It involves creating artifacts or narratives that depict fictional scenarios or products, often based on emerging technologies or societal trends. This report acts as a visualization of the potential consequences of this future, specifically how corporations benefit from our exposure.

THE
OUTCOME

The initial product is limited to a short arbitrary presentation, however the full vision for the concept encompasses a variety of areas beyond social life: Productivity, Health, etc. All categories capable of enlightening our daily life and providing stronger knowledge of our personal patterns, with equal capacity to disrupt our privacy and provide partner companies with personal data. Ultimately, Life Wrapped presents the viewer with an increasingly important question: where do you draw the line on your privacy?
