BRIEF

Boostability is a dual-channel product built specifically for neurodivergent students consisting of an AI-powered task management tool paired with personal counseling. In the summer of 2024, I was hired to help bring the startup's MVP from 0 to 1 for its initial pilot session in Spring 2025. As a Product Design Intern, I delivered the web-app's home dashboard and task management pages while leading user-centered research into the habits of struggling neurodiverse students to identify where Boostability could attack viable pain points. Despite my lobbying throughout the internship, management restricted us to desktop only.

An approachable, accessible task management assistant for students with ADHD, ADD, or ASD1.

CHALLENGE

9.1% of college students with ADHD drop out before reaching graduation, says the National Institute of Health. Our team of designers and developers was tasked with delivering Boostability's MVP in under four months addressing the following question:

How might we alleviate academic anxiety experienced by neurodivergent college students through a digital task management assistant?

RESEARCH

After I created the user interview template, we interviewed eight college students with ADHD from several different schools recording how their affliction troubles them most on a daily basis and what strategies are used to combat said issues.

We learned that neurodiverse students lack self-created organizational resources, human support, and in some cases avoid accessibility resources by not reporting their diagnosis all contributing to a collective feeling of discouragement and burnout. We compiled this information amongst other pain points and oppportunities in user personas.

Additionally, I assisted the brand team by surveying all Boostability employees about the product's voice to inform our UX writing and messaging.

TASK
MANAGEMENT

The "my tasks" page is the one-stop-shop where users could complete or edit ongoing assignments. This feature organized and presented direct actions written by the AI "goal chunker" based on user submission of their assignment.

Many students with ADHD are heavy procrastinators due to struggles with time management and task prioritization. With the "goal chunker" and "my tasks" page, students no longer have to worry about scheduling and prioritizing their individual assignments. Through user testing in the fall semester, Boostability management aims to discover if these features truly relieve student anxiety.

DASHBOARD

The dashboard was the final step before delivery to the developers. Naturally, this landing page served as window into the other flows allowing the user to get necessary information at a glance. Additionally, I added one unique feature...

In a direct response to the user research, I created the "consistency score" a metric and visual graphic to increase the customer retention rate (CRR). This feature combines multiple behavioral statistics including task completion, completion by deadline, and app usage into one metric elevating the Boostability experience through gamification.

OUTCOME

Delivered final iterations and functional prototypes of the dashboard and activities pages to the Boostability developers at the conclusion of my internship in the summer 2024. The developers then built the product for initial testing in the fall semester; the official pilot program began in the spring semester of 2025. Beyond designing the browser-based product's main pages, I led foundational UX research and supported the improvement of Boostability's visual brand.

The internship ended before the testing phase began, but given the opportunity, I would have urged management to pursue a mobile MVP and performmore in-depth research into gamified features that break through to neurodiverse students.
